Northern Lights College Collective Agreement
A new collective agreement for auxiliary staff at Northern Lights College has been ratified, the province announced Tuesday. The new contract has been ratified by the BCGEU, the college`s board of directors and the board of directors of the post-secondary employers` association, the province said. A secondary school in northern B.C. has reached an agreement with 200 of its assistants. Northern Lights College`s Support Staff Bargaining Committee is pleased to announce that members overwhelmingly ratified the 2020 agreement on January 20. A statement from B.C.`s Ministry of Finance also states that this agreement is in line with its commitment to balanced budgets and sound financial management. The agreement with BCGEU Local 710 runs from July 2019 to June 2022 and includes an annual salary increase of 2%. It also includes « modest funds negotiated to support workforce development and training, address a shortage of skilled workers and upgrade employee skills to support more complex positions in the future, » the province said. The agreement includes 200 assistants working in the areas of information technology, administration, laboratory support, facilities, library support and other areas of the college. The agreement, which was reached with Bc Government Employees Union (BCGEU) Local 710, is valid for the next three years and includes a two per cent annual salary increase between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2022.
